Netflix
The early marketing for Jessica Jones hasn’t told us much about the show’s story, but we’ve heard plenty of rumblings that this is going to be a dark and bumpy ride. After watching the pilot at New York Comic-Con, our Alisha Grauso opined that the darkness in this Netflix series presents a very interesting risk for Marvel. As she wrote in her piece, there’s a lot of sexuality and violence and brooding inherent around the titular Jessica, as played by Krysten Ritter.
There’s also going to be something very sinister about the show’s villain, Kilgrave, played by David Tennant. In this new trailer, we get our first look at what Kilgrave is all about. Plenty of Marvel villains have been sinister. But as Alisha described, “Kilgrave is another story entirely. His brand of villainy makes the skin crawl. Jessica Jones will delve into the aftermath of Jessica having been held captive and mind-controlled by the supervillain – and then repeatedly raped and abused at his hands. And while true, psychic mind control is less plausible, the concept of being emotionally and sexually abused at the hands of someone who has broken you down is a very real one.”
That’s another story, indeed. Watch the trailer for yourself below.
Jessica Jones drops on Netflix November 20.
