What’s New to Stream on Netflix for November 2019, and What’s Leaving

Some people spend their days arguing over the merits of Netflix, but the rest of us are too busy enjoying new movies, engaging series, and fun specials. It’s just one more way to re-watch the movies we already love and find new ones to cherish, and this month sees some of both hitting the service.

The complete list of movies and shows hitting (and leaving) Netflix this month — November 2019 — is below, but first I’m going to highlight a few that stand apart from the bunch.

Netflix Pick of the Month

Watching new movies and discovering new favorites is great, but have you ever tried re-watching a fantastic film for the tenth time and realizing it’s still an absolute banger? John Dahl’s Rounders (1998) shouldn’t be as addictive a watch as it is — an ex-gambler has to re-enter the game to help a friend — but energetic direction, a sharp script, and engaging turns by Matt Damon, Edward Norton, Gretchen Mol, John Turturro, and John Malkovich make for an endlessly compelling film.

The Latest From Some Guy Named Scorsese

The Irishman

There’s no question that the highest profile arrival to Netflix this month — and one of its most anticipated original films — is Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman (premiering on 11/27). The filmmaker reunites Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci and adds Al Pacino into the mix for a story about post-WWII organized crime up through and including the famed disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.

For True Crime Addicts

Netflix The Devil Next Door

2015’s Dream/Killer (arriving 11/20) lacks the length afforded some of Netflix’s limited series takes on true crime stories, but it packs plenty of condemnation for the justice system into its 106 minutes. It’s the story of an innocent man convicted of a crime, the effort to get him released, and the ultimate indifference to his fate. The Devil Next Door (premiering 11/4) is a new doc from Netflix about a little, old grandfather in Cleveland, OH who one day is accused of being the infamous concentration camp guard nicknamed “Ivan the Terrible.”

Halloween’s Over, But Horror Is Forever

Rosemary's Baby

Zombieland (2009) arrives while its sequel is still in theaters, and for folks who like their undead shenanigans mixed with comedy, action, and fun cameos this is a flick that should scratch all of those itches. Rosemary’s Baby (1968) is slightly less funny, but Roman Polanski’s devilish slow burn is beloved by many anyway.
