‘Good Time’ Directors The Safdie Brothers Eye ’48 Hours’ Remake

By Max Covill

Benny and Josh Safdie have a new project lined up and it is a perfect fit.

The word from The Hollywood Reporter is that the Safdies are going to be tackling a remake of 48 Hours for Paramount Partners.

After the success of the Robert Pattinson led Good Time, The Safdies could probably have their choice of next project. Good Time premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to great acclaim and has since been nominated for many Independent Spirit Awards. A24 released the film stateside earlier this year.

48 Hours is notable for many reasons least of all it launched Eddie Murphy’s film career and that of the buddy cop feature. The film features Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy as a cop and a criminal on parole who have to track down a killer. 48 Hours offers an exciting mixture of comedy and action in the 1982 buddy cop classic.

The Safdies will handle writing the script and be directing the picture while they add co-writer Ronald Bronstein who worked with them on Good Time. Perhaps to add some of the comedy element into the script, they will be joined by Jerrod Carmichael, the comedian who starred in the NBC comedy The Carmichael Show. No idea who the Safdies will cast, but they’ve shown capable of bringing out great performances in their actors. Not only Robert Pattinson but also from films like Heaven Knows What. A 48 Hours remake might seem superfluous on paper, but with the Safdies behind it, it has just become a highly anticipated project.
