"They seemed excited about the amount of work it would take to do this movie…" Lionsgate has released a 4-minute extended featurette for Damien Chazelle's stellar La La Land, going behind the making of this magnificent modern musical. It's one of the most refreshing and exciting movies this entire year, and it's incredibly impressive thanks to the vision of writer/director Damien Chazelle. Chazelle is featured in this video a lot, talking about various aspects of the movie, from choosing the actors to the choreography to the set design. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone play the star-crossed Los Angeles lovers. I'm glad Lionsgate is sharing so much of this movie before release, they seem to be totally supportive of it and that's great. Enjoy.
Here's the full behind-the-scenes featurette for Damien Chazelle's La La Land, from Lionsgate's YouTube:
And here's a few other TV spots for Chazelle's La La Land that have debuted recently, also from YouTube:
From my Telluride review: "it's a love letter to having hope, it's a love letter to dreams. It will sweep you off your feet, possibly break your heart, but will remind you of all the audacious joy to be found in this world."
Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail party gigs in dingy bars, but as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart. La La Land is written & directed by filmmaker Damien Chazelle, his second feature film following Whiplash, which received a Best Picture Oscar nomination and won three other Oscars. Lionsgate is planning to release Chazelle's La La Land in select theaters starting December 9th this year, expanding wide soon after. Who else can't wait?
