"For those who don't know me, my name is John. And I'm a real success story…" Icon Films Australia has debuted the first official trailer for Blood Father, a film by Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precinct 13 remake, Mesrine Part 1 & Mesrine Part 2: Public Enemy #1), starring Mel Gibson as an ex-con badass who gets into some gritty action trying to save his daughter, played by Erin Moriarty. This kind of has the toss-up mix of being part Taken, part John Wick in a way, plus all Mel Gibson, reset in the deep South with a No Country tinge - and it actually looks pretty damn good. The cast says it includes William H. Macy, Thomas Mann, Elisabeth Röhm, Diego Luna & Dale Dickey. This is definitely worth taking a look at.
Here's the first trailer for Jean-François Richet's Blood Father, from Icon Australia's YouTube (via TFS):
After her drug kingpin boyfriend frames her for stealing a fortune in cartel cash, 16 year old Lydia (Erin Moriarty) goes on the run, with only one ally in this whole wide world: her perennial screw-up of a dad, John Link (Mel Gibson), who's been a drunk, a drug addict, a motorcycle outlaw, and a convict in his time, and now is determined to keep his little girl from harm and, for once in his life, do the right thing… Blood Father is directed by French filmmaker Jean-François Richet, of All About Love, the Assault on Precinct 13 remake, Mesrine Part 1 & Mesrine Part 2: Public Enemy #1 previously. The screenplay was written by Peter Craig and Andrea Berloff, based on the novel by Peter Craig. Blood Father will open in Australia this August, but still doesn't have a US release date yet from Lionsgate. Stay tuned. Anyone interested in this?
