The Evolution of Batman in TV and Film

The Evolution of Batman

The folks over at Burger Fiction have published their latest video, which explores the history of Batman on screen. From the early days of Adam West holding round bombs to Michael Keaton fighting clowns and Michelle Pfeiffer to Ben Affleck’s upcoming appearance with all kinds of animated renditions in between, we’ve seen a lot of Batman on our screens of varying size.

The diversity of the Batman cross-medium universe is such that no matter what kind of tone or vision you’re looking for in your Batman property, you’ll find it somewhere. Looking for a gritty, grounded and literary execution of Gotham’s hero? There’s Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. How about an anime version of the Caped Crusader? Batman: Gotham Knight is right up your alley.

Perhaps this diversity is what fuels the passion around the character, even to a fault. People love Batman. I love Batman. And have ever since I saw Michael Keaton don the cape and cowl in Tim Burton’s 1989 film. Back then, it was Adam West, a few animated versions, then Keaton. And you never forget your first.

Since then, we’ve been given everything from Batman Beyond to Lego Batman — the latter of which is getting a new movie, trailer pending.

The question that will always plague us: What is your favorite version of Batman?

For me, there will never be another Keaton. And we’ve already begun to hear great things about Ben Affleck’s take on the character. Give the video below a watch and then jump into the comments below and tell us for yourself, which Batman do you prefer?
