One of the lesser known properties on my list of the most anticipated TV shows of 2016 was The Night Manager, a new series from BBC One that will debut on AMC in the U.S. in April. Up to this point, we only knew a few things about it:
- It’s written by John le Carre, whose work includes Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Constant Gardener.
- All six episodes were directed by accomplished Danish director Susanne Bier.
- It stars Tom Hiddleston as a hotel night manager who is recruited by intelligence agents to infiltrate an arms dealer’s network.
- Hugh Laurie plays the bad guy.
Alright, so maybe we knew enough to make a quality judgment. That’s why it ended up in the top ten of my most anticipated list. I’ll take sexy intrigue and a battle of wits between Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie without seeing anything from the project.
That fact makes this new trailer from BBC One a cherry on top:
That looks excellent, you guys. Sadly it’s only going to be a six-episode miniseries, but it looks like it will be packed with all the tightly-wound spy drama we can handle.
The Night Manager is scheduled to debut on AMC on April 19 and run for six weeks on Sunday nights.
