Daredevil Season 2 Teaser Gorgeously Sets a Premiere Date

Earlier this week, a fun rumor was going around that Marvel’s Daredevil would debut on Netflix the same weekend that DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will debut in theaters. As it turns out, that rumor was close, but not quite right. According to this new teaser trailer, Daredevil season 2 will debut on Netflix on March 18, 2016.

The teaser itself is an eerie, gorgeous reminder of everything we learned about Matt Murdoch in season one. His accident as a child, his training, his call to action as an adult, and the way his double life affected the relationships he had with the people around him. Then, toward the end, did you notice the skull pattern as the full painting was revealed? Daredevil’s work is not done, because there’s someone else in play: Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher.

Here’s the official synopsis from Netflix:

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

The first season was such an amazingly patient slow-burn, if you think about it. Showrunners Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard took their time in building a world around Charlie Cox’s Murdoch. They allowed the character — and the Daredevil persona — time to breath. And when it came to adversaries, they kept things simple and delivered a Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) that was a wonderfully complex character. Now that they’ve done all the hard work, they can begin to have some fun. This means bringing in the complicated story of Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Elektra (Elodie Yung). This should be a lot of fun.
