You Won’t Want to Let Go of the First Anomalisa Trailer

Anomalies

“There are few writers more cerebral and surreal working in cinema than Charlie Kaufman,” that’s where our own Jason Gorber began his review of Anomalisa in September after its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. It’s a sentiment that has been echoed by a number of critics. With its limited run through the film festival circuit, Anomalisa has already become one of the single best-reviewed films of 2015. And it’s not just getting praise for being a thoughtful film about humanity (starring puppets). It’s being labeled a masterpiece. Perhaps my favorite critical quote thus far comes from LA Weekly’s Amy Nicholson:

Kaufman is taking our brains apart and showing us the gears.

That is a level beyond high praise. We’re talking about something entirely next-level, something essential to our cultural landscape. The combination of Kaufman’s writing and some innovative animation seem to be pressing critics into a place beyond hyperbole. Where only deep affection exists.

It’s an affection I hope to also enjoy when the movie hits theaters on in limited release on December 30, then rolls out nationwide in January. Until then, let’s marvel at this beautiful trailer:
