The First W/ Bob and David Sketch Gives Up Red Meat, Inspires Sad Laughter

In a few weeks, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross will return to sketch comedy on Netflix in their new show, W/ Bob and David. The Mr. Show team is reuniting “after being dishonorably discharged from the Navy Seals,” and making a bunch of other great TV (Breaking Bad, Arrested Development) along the way.

In this first sketch to be released, it already feels like home again. And there’s a topical twinge as the sketch centers on a poor schlub named Mike (the innumerably talented Paul F. Tompkins) who decides to give up red meat as his New Year’s resolution. His friends, who are skeptical, have resolutions of their own — like becoming Pope — yet they insist that Mike’s resolution is bullshit. It’s an all-too-real scenario, especially with yesterday’s news that processed meats are giving us all butt cancer.

It’s a sad day for fans of pepperoni. But November 13 will be a happy day for fans of Bob and David, as that’s when their 13-episode show drops on Netflix in its entirety.
