Watch This Fine Trailer for An Opportunistic Steve Jobs Movie

Earlier this week, Apple CEO and long time Steve Jobs friend and confidant Tim Cook appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. There he commented briefly on his feelings about the rash of Jobs biopics being churned out by Hollywood, calling them “opportunistic.” It makes complete sense. To the rest of us, Steve Jobs was himself a sort of abstract concept. Simultaneously a towering figure hovering above a technological empire and a spirit that lived within our most useful toys. But to the people who knew him, worked with him and were close to him, Steve Jobs was a human being. So the portrayal of this human as a cultural icon, the sorting through his life for the purposes of drama, might be a little much for those who lived in the very real gravitational field around him.

Yet, the rest of us want to come as close to that gravitational field as possible. This is why we have interest in a movie like Steve Jobs, in which writer Aaron Sorkin and director Danny Boyle have taken the most thorough and authorized biography of the man (by Walter Isaacson) and turned it into grand theater. In this latest trailer, that drama is on display in full. This will be a movie about the force of nature that was Steve Jobs. The inventor, the visionary, the megalomaniac, the deadbeat father.

And of course there’s the added benefit of having one of today’s finest working actors, Michael Fassbender, in the titular role. Are we still worried that he doesn’t look quite like the real Jobs?

Watching this trailer, we’re only further convinced that we made the right choice when we listed this among the top 10 most anticipated movies of the rest of 2015Steve Jobs will hit theaters on October 9.
