I have to admit a bias toward the movies in The Divergent Series. The first one was fine. I enjoyed it from the comfort of my own home on HBO Go. While watching the second one, I inadvertently spilled 32 oz. of water on my Macbook Air, thus ending its life, somewhere around the 45-minute mark. Is the movie to blame for my idiocy? No. But it did taint the experience somewhat. I’m sure Insurgent isn’t a bad movie, I’m just remembering the pain I felt when I realized that I’d killed my favorite piece of technology ever.
So here’s the trailer for Allegiant, the third installment in the series and the first half of the big finish. Just as The Hunger Games has done, Divergent is breaking its final book into two movies. It’s all the rage since Harry Potter did it.
As we know from the previous film, Shailene Woodley’s Tris is the chosen one meant to lead her people beyond the wall, where the architects of the dystopian Chicago sociological experiment await. This includes, as we see from the trailer above, the involvement of Jeff Daniels and an organization known as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. I’ve never read the books, but that seems like a pretty nefarious organization name. The new trailer — more of a teaser, really — gives a quick recap of the previous two movies before showing us some new footage, which looks cool. Hopefully I can get all the way through the movie without destroying anything.
The Divergent Series: Allegiant is due in theaters on March 18, 2016.
