Ryan Reynolds took to Conan this evening to chat about how the upcoming Deadpool movie came to be. He (and the overlords at Fox) also used the appearance as an excuse to debut the much-anticipated red band trailer.
We all know the story of Deadpool. A year ago, test footage originally used by Reynolds, director Tim Miller, and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick was leaked onto the Internet. Then a hoard of screaming comic book fans made it happen, or so the story goes. It could have all been a little bit more calculated than we’ve been led to believe. It’s forgivable. Whatever the reason behind the leak, the ensuing buzz forced Fox’s hand and a Deadpool movie was greenlit.
This is that Deadpool movie. It now has two trailers.
The first is a green band trailer suitable for most audiences:
The second is the red band trailer, which debuted on Conan and is meant for mature audiences and sociopaths:
That second one is delightful, no? It’s essentially the same trailer shown to audiences at Comic-Con last month with a few little cuts. The tone is there. The gratuitous violence is there. The foul-mouthed mercing is there. It’s everything we’ve been waiting for. Everything we’ve been hoping for from Deadpool’s long-gestating rise to the silver screen. It’s just right.
Deadpool is in theaters February 12, 2016. Which is exactly 190 days, but who’s counting, am I right?
