Watch: First Trailer for Chilean Mining Catastrophe Movie 'The 33'

The 33 Trailer

"That's not a rock, that's the heart of the mountain - she finally broke…" Warner Bros has debuted the full trailer for the Chilean mining catastrophe movie The 33, directed by Patricia Riggen, starring an ensemble international cast: Antonio Banderas, Rodrigo Santoro, Juliette Binoche, James Brolin, and Lou Diamond Phillips, with Bob Gunton and Gabriel Byrne. The cast also includes Mario Casas, Jacob Vargas, Juan Pablo Raba, Oscar Nuñez, Tenoch Huerta, Marco Treviño, Adriana Barraza, Kate Del Castillo, Cote de Pablo, Elizabeth De Razzo, Naomi Scott, Gustavo Angarita, and Alejandro Goic. This is one of those uplifting, inspirational movies of hope and perseverance. It's Hollywood-ized, but it still looks pretty good.

Here's the first official trailer for Patricia Riggen's The 33, direct from Warner Bros' YouTube:

The 33 Poster

In 2010, the eyes of the world turned to Chile, where 33 miners had been buried alive by the catastrophic explosion and collapse of a 100-year-old gold and copper mine. Over the next 69 days, an international team worked night and day in a desperate attempt to rescue the trapped men as their families and friends, as well as millions of people globally, waited and watched anxiously for any sign of hope. But 200 stories beneath the surface, in the suffocating heat and with tensions rising, provisions—and time—were quickly running out. The 33 is directed by Mexican filmmaker Patricia Riggen, of Girl in Progress and Under the Same Moon previously. Warner Bros will release Riggen's The 13 starting on November 13th later this fall.
