Tom Cruise Hints at More 'Mission Impossible' + 'Edge of Tomorrow 2'

Tom Cruise

More sequels! Always more sequels. With the latest Mission: Impossible movie about to hit theaters, Tom Cruise is out doing the press rounds and was in New York City this week talking with everyone. During the premiering, MTV News caught up with him and got a very brief tease about a possible Edge of Tomorrow sequel. Everyone has been catching up to that one and realizing how damn good it is, and now they want a sequel, so he says "I pitched it to [Rogue Nation director Christopher] McQuarrie and [Edge of Tomorrow director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it…" That's all that was revealed, but on "The Daily Show" Cruise confirmed some bigger news regarding more Mission: Impossible.

While speaking with Jon Stewart as the guest on "The Daily Show", Cruise was talking about making the Mission: Impossible movies (including producing them). He was asked: "You got plans to do another one?" Cruise answers with: "Yeah, we're starting to work on it now. We'll probably start shooting it next summer…" He goes on to say that right now he's shooting another Doug Liman film, referring to the project Mena. There wasn't anything else big revealed and it ended right after that, but it was an interesting tidbit. See the interview below. Of course, the studio will always say it depends on how Rogue Nation performs and if audiences are still into these movies. Only then will it be official that another one will be made. Watch:

For more, just watch the entire video above or head to thedailyshow.cc.com for the full interview. Below is the full quote from Tom Cruise regarding the Edge of Tomorrow sequel, reported by MTV News. He says:

"I pitched it to [Rogue Nation director and Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Christopher] McQuarrie and [Edge of Tomorrow director] Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it," he said.

The manga that the movie is based on, "All You Need Is Kill," is reportedly also getting a written sequel.

Cruise wouldn’t divulge what his idea was, but he was definitely amped about it.

"It could be so much fun," he said. "Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, 'give me another year, please.'"

Between these two, I'm actually a bit more excited for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel. If one ever happens… The original movie is so nicely packaged it's a very hard one to follow up, and it might not work, but I'd rather continue that story than see yet another Mission: Impossible (this next one would be #6). Rogue Nation is fine, but the series is starting to get a bit drawn out. I still enjoy watching Tom Cruise movies, but I wouldn't mind seeing him play some different characters. In Mena, he plays a pilot who made a living as a gun runner and drug trafficker who moved goods for the CIA and the infamous Medeillin drug cartel. For now, you can catch Cruise in McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation playing in theaters on Friday.
