Seth Gordon Lands Gig to Direct 'Baywatch' Starring Dwayne Johnson

Baywatch Dwayne Johnson

Another day, another remake. This time Paramount is finally putting together an update "big-screen take" on the 90s TV show that originally starred David Hasselhoff & Pamela Anderson. THR reports Paramount has set director Seth Gordon, of Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses, Four Christmases and The King of Kong, to take on the new Baywatch which is also set to star Dwayne Johnson. Johnson has been attached since late last year, and the project has been gestating for at least a decade. We've been hearing about some rumblings and rumors of a Baywatch movie forever, but now it sounds like they're pushing forward with it (another name brand project, of course) with Gordon in negotiations to take the job directing. I'm intrigued.

Paramount's new take on a Baywatch movie has been in the works for years. The script has undergone many revisions and the latest iteration is by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. THR says that producers Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman feel like "they are very close and hope that Gordon can bring it to the production starting line". In addition, they're going for a feeling similar to that of 21 Jump Street, which is why they like Seth Gordon, who has been making a name for himself in mainstream comedies in recent years. "The story centers on a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon." Production is aiming for 2016, so stay tuned for additional updates from here. Anyone want this?
