Married With Children Might Be the Next Old TV Show Resurrected

While ’80s/’90s TV fans wait with just a little bit of care to see if Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen actually get pulled into Fuller House, the resurrection of the “classic” sitcom Full House, they can now also get excited about the next possible entry into this trend that really needs to die already: Married With Children could return to television or a streaming service or something else that currently hosts episodic programming.

Of course, it’s David Faustino who is teasing the idea of such a spinoff, as he’s probably the one most in need of something like this to happen. The actor, still best known as Bud Bundy from that crude and nasty show (which debuted the same year as Full House, 1997, then aired through 1997), was at the Vacation premiere this week and told E! he’s developing the project with Sony.

“Sony has it. They’re excited about it,” he said on the red carpet. “They’re working out some legal issues that we hope they work out.”

He then mentioned Vacation star Christina Applegate, who played his sister, Kelly, on the original show, is on board for at least some minor involvement. As are, apparently, parents Al (Ed O’Neill, who is a regular on Modern Family) and Peggy (Katey Sagal, who is gearing up to star in husband Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy follow-up, The Bastard Executioner, this fall).

Applegate actually confirmed the idea and her interest at the premiere. “All of us have said we would all be there for [Faustino],” she told E!

So it’s clearly an update primarily focused on Bud, which actually makes it sound kind of like a copy of the new Vacation sequel, which focuses on the Griswold son while featuring the original movie series’ parents and sister in brief supporting roles.

As someone who watched Married With Children nearly its entire 11 season run, I don’t even care where Bud or the others are now. I guess I’d just assume they’re all dead. I wouldn’t mind seeing what became of Marcy and Jefferson, though.

To show you the level of fan I was then, though, here’s a photo of me dressed as Peggy Bundy for Halloween in I think 1993 (I don’t know why I’m flexing):
