Get Your High and Low Fixes With Trailers For Macbeth and Sharknado 3

There are so many things that can be said of the difference between Macbeth and Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, but the one that I find most important is how many times Macbeth can be put on the screen, faithfully or reworked as something like Throne of Blood or Scotland PA, and still be a fresh, exciting and genuinely new work, while there are now three Sharknado installments and they all look the same and are as fresh as three-year-old fish.

They’re also not as random a pairing as you think. I don’t just mean that Sharknado is the choice of the low “groundling” audience of today (and also a guilty pleasure of some higher brow viewers). Or how it was quite common for Elizabethan audiences to talk back during a performance, much like how the Sharknado viewers tweet their running commentary. I mean because of stuff like this:

Obviously, OBVIOUSLY!, we’re more excited for the new adaptation of the Bard, partly thanks to the casting of Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as the title character and Lady Mabeth, respectively, and cinematography by Adam Arkapaw (Animal Kingdom), whose work here looks far more remarkable than expected. This Macbeth looks to be a splendidly stylish take from director Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders) but we’re just as interested in the cast, which also includes David Thewlis and Paddy Considine.

Meanwhile, Sharknado 3 is bringing back Ian Ziering and Tara Reid along with pop culture guest stars Ann Coulter and David Hasselhoff, all speaking the very non-Shakespearean words of Thunder Levin. I think the cinematographer is an overflowing toilet. The director used to write and edit for movie news publications, so there’s hope for us all.

Macbeth currently has no U.S. release date, but of course Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! does, premiering on Syfy on July 22nd.
