Following the trend of Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games, we already know that The Divergent Series: Allegiant will be split into two films. Allegiant - Part 1 will arrive on March 18th, 2016 and Allegiant - Part 2 will arrive on March 24th, 2017. That meas the entire franchise will have been release in just four years. That would be more impressive if the films had a little more substance (they're not terrible, just underwhelming), but young adult sci-fi is all the rage right now. Anyway, the finale might up the ante as THR reports Dumb & Dumber and "The Newsroom" star Jeff Daniels has joined.
If you haven't seen The Divergent Series: Insurgent yet, then stop reading. As we learned at the end of the sequel, the faction program was created in order find the best and brightest people who would join the rest of society, which is very much alive and well outside of the walls that surround Chicago. However, it sounds like when the rebels in Chicago begin to learn more about the outside world that has been revealed to hem, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
Daniels will be playing David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, the organization behind the creation of the societies in which Tris (Shailene Woodley) was living, and slowly she and her friends discover the creation of the societies had a more nefarious purpose. Over the past few years, Daniels has been digging the sci-fi genre. Back in 2012, he had a great supporting role in Looper, and coming up he has a role in Ridley Scott's adaptation of The Martian starring Matt Damon and now this role in both parts of Allegiant. Daniels is such a versatile actor, and I really hope he makes the end of this franchise better.
