After being pursued by a terrifying entity in this year's indie horror hit It Follows, actress Maika Monroe will have to deal with aliens this time. Director Roland Emmerich again took to Twitter today to announce that the actress has landed a role in Independence Day 2. Monroe is one among a few new additions to the sequel who were not part of the original 1996 sci-fi blockbuster. Other new cast members include Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Jessie Usher, Charlote Gainsbourg, Travis Tope and Joey King. However, at this time, we really don't know what roles these new actors will be playing in the sequel.
Here's the update from Roland Emmerich through his own Twitter account:
I have another addition to announce. The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!

As for returning cast members, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner and recently confirmed Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch will all be back as their characters from the first film. The sequel is supposed to take place 20 years after the events of the first film, which will be real time, almost to the day, from when the original was released. Emmerich is directing again with a script that he co-wrote with Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt. With two decades passing since the first film, will fans be eager to see what kind of alien battle we'll have on Earth this time? We'll just have to wait and see.
