After bringing comedy to the White House Correspondents' Dinner last week, "Saturday Night Live" cast member Cecily Strong is getting ready to start a feature film career as well. The comedienne has a role in the indie comedy The Bronze, but now she's lined up her first studio feature film comedy as Deadline reports Strong is taking a role in Michelle Darnell, the next comedy led by The Heat and Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy. As of now there's no indication as to what role Strong has in the film, but her presence is enough to have some hope that this comedy actually turns out better than McCarthy's Tammy.
There have been rumblings that Strong may also end up having a role in the all-female Ghostbusters reboot from director Paul Feig, and working with one of the films four leads (McCarthy) certainly makes that more likely, but we'll see what happens on that front. Strong has a couple more films on the way, including Staten Island Summer at Paramount Pictures and another film called The Meddler that will see her co-starring with Rose Byrne, Susan Sarandon and J.K. Simmons. Michelle Darnell is directed by Ben Falcone (Tammy) from a script he co-wrote with McCarthy, his real-life wife. The film arrives on April 8th, 2016.
