20th Century Fox Developing 'Play-Doh' Movie, Paul Feig May Direct

After the success of The LEGO Movie, it seems studios are interested in adapting toys and properties known for their limitless imagination for the big screen. There's a Minecraft movie in development at Warner Bros. and now Deadline reports 20th Century Fox has struck a deal with Hasbro to mold a live-action film based on Play-Doh, the colorful modeling clay that kids have played with for decades so much that the brand name has actually become the descriptor for the object itself. In addition, Bridemaids director and The Peanuts Movie producer Paul Feig is in talks to direct the film scripted by Butter scribe Jason Micallef.

It's hard to write this idea off completely considering what happened with The LEGO Movie after many were cynical and skeptical about the studio developing a movie around a toy that had no story attached to its legacy. However, lightning rarely strikes twice, and this still just feels like a studio trying to replicate the success of a surprisingly fantastic and original piece of work from Phil Lord & Chris Miller. Feig might not seem like the right guy for the job, but he's been a big part of making The Peanuts Movie happen at Fox, so it's not hard to see why they want him on board the Play-Doh movie. Stay tuned to see what happens.
