Release date set for the follow-up to The Force Awakens, while the Felicity Jones-starring spin-off has been given its official title
The eighth Star Wars film may not yet have a title, but it does have a release date: at it annual shareholders’ meeting Disney and Lucasfilm announced that the follow-up to The Force Awakens will arrive in cinemas on 26 May 2017, according to a report in Variety.
It was also confirmed that Looper director Rian Johnson will take over from JJ Abrams in the director’s chair, as well as write the script – a move widely heralded in summer 2014 when reports suggested Johnson would be working on Episodes 8 and 9.
