After teaming with Seth Rogen for last summer's hilarious comedy Neighbors, former Disney Channel star Zac Efron is joining forces with another popular comedy star, this time from television, for his next big screen comedy. Just last month we learned Efron was signed on to lead Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates , a feature comedy at 20th Century Fox, but he still needed a co-star to take the other title role. Now THR reports it will be "Workaholics" co-creator and star Adam DeVine taking the role opposite Efron in the story of two brothers who try to find dates for their cousin's wedding by posting an ad on Craigslist.
The film is actually based on a true story about Mike and Dave Stangle from Albany, New York, so there must be some kind of interesting twist to make this worth a feature film re-telling. For now, all we know is the hard-partying and immature brothers end up coming across a pair of ladies who can party harder and get crazier than the two bros. With a script from Neighbors writers Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O'Brien, and Funny or Die comedy short director Jake Szymanski behind the camera and we're hoping for the best.
This could be the role that makes DeVine a bigger comedy star on the film side of things, especially since he's proven to be a valuable part of Pitch Perfect and this year's sequel (watch the latest trailer right here). We'll next see him in The Intern from Nancy Meyers and the horror comedy The Final Girls premiering at SXSW next month. But for now, you'll just have to enjoy him as Adam on "Workaholics" and as a recurring character on "Modern Family" on ABC. Sound good?
