Frank Castle Will Return: ‘The Punisher’ Season 2 Confirmed

By Max Covill

Jon Bernthal will bring the pain all over again.

Violent superhero stories might be a thing of the past once the Disney/Fox merger completes, but one ‘hero’ that will likely be unaffected is The Punisher. Netflix has confirmed through social media that the show featuring Jon Bernthal in the title role will return for a second season.

Our own Brad Gullickson reviewed the first season of the show, and wasn’t too happy with the results:

“I want a proud and confident adaptation. I don’t need characters labeled with familiar names to simply placate my fanboy whims. How is Frank Castle any different from the endless line of Schwarzenegger or Stallone action heroes we had decades back? You had thirteen hours to explore his psychology, and it was wasted on dead-ends and thinly drawn clichés.”

Basically, this is only The Punisher in name, since the Netflix series has done little to actually adopt the stories of the character. Brad does mention that Jon Bernthal is a good reason to continue through the season, but whether or not that will be enough for round two remains to be seen.

The characters that are featured in The Defenders series will likely stay on Netflix for the time being, and not return to Disney when they decide to open their own streaming channel. This means that Netflix will probably continue shows like The Defenders, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and The Punisher for as long as possible. No word yet on when The Punisher will return, but Netflix will probably release the next season at around the same time of November in 2018.
