Short Film Friday: ‘Underground Tantrum’ Revels In Rap

By Jacob Oller

Floridian doc chronicles its post-trap present.

This documentary about the underground rap scene in South Florida uses its youth as both fuel and engine. Neon energy runs Underground Tantrum, pushing and pumping the strobe-lit party philosophy into the more professional interviews of the local business- and lifestyle-minded artists.

These kids are focused on themselves – not egotistically, but to carve an identity. Nobody who has come before, or will come after, matter. Uniqueness and marketability are ever-present ideas quarreling in the minds of these young rappers and director Cristy Trabada expresses both well in a limited timespan.
