Kristen Stewart Considered for ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Reboot

By Max Covill

“Good morning, Angels.” Okay reboot, you have our attention.

Kristen Stewart has had quite the career away from mainstream pictures. Last year alone she stared in Certain Women, Personal Shopper, and Café Society. All three pictures brought her acting accolades. Her last big-budget picture, Snow White and the Huntsman, although that might be better forgotten. Now, she might be willing to come back into mainstream Hollywood pictures for the right project. Charlie’s Angels might be that project.

Variety is reporting that Stewart is in talks to join Charlie Angel’s reboot, along with Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o. Sony is extremely interested in getting big names for its reboot. Elizabeth Banks, who directed Pitch Perfect 2, is set to direct the picture. Sony is planning a summer 2019 release, so production would likely get started soon.

Charlie's Angels

Charlie’s Angels (2000)

Charlie’s Angels was the highly popular TV series of the late 70s, early 80s. It depicted the adventures of three women private eyes. The women were played by Kate JacksonFarrah Fawcett, and Jaclyn Smith. The series has already made a trip to the big screen. In 2000,  Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu played the Angels and it was such a success it led to a sequel film.

Lupita Nyong’o could benefit from the opportunity of a mainstream picture. Even though she has some impressive credits including Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jungle Book, she isn’t seen as a human character, but rather a CGI creation. Outside of Queen of Katwe and 12 Years A Slave, we’ve seen very little of Nyong’o on screen. In addition to next year’s Black Panther, this would be a wonderful opportunity for the actress.

Just as important as Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong’o being considered, is the fact that a woman is directing a Charlie’s Angels picture. Perhaps Wonder Woman affected the industry in more ways than one, but women should be the at the forefront of telling stories about women. Elizabeth Banks showed that she has what it takes to direct a major motion picture and now she’ll have the keys to her own new franchise.

All of these efforts make us very excited for the Charlie’s Angels reboot.
