Get swept away by unexpected love in the Italian countryside.
There are many beautiful things in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name. It’s set in the Italian countryside in 1983, which has a beauty and splendor of its own. The sumptuous vistas, slow rolling hills, and beautiful architecture do not disappoint, nor are they ignored by Guadagnino’s lens. It also enjoys the luxury of an elegant, wistful pace and soundtrack. Not to mention a cast of seriously talented actors that includes Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, and two very talented youths in Timothée Chalamet and Esther Garrel.
But there’s one thing that stands out as the most beautiful, delectable thing about this film, and that’s both the performance and the aura of Armie Hammer. He’s the biggest reason the film had such a resounding debut at Sundance, coming out of the festival as the most talked about film by a very chatty cabal of critics. I know. I was there and was equally impressed with the experience — nay, the trance — of witnessing Call Me By Your Name.
CALL ME BY YOUR NAME: fuck, that's a beautiful film. If there was ever a final proof of the Kinsey Scale, this is it. #sundance
