Nikolaj Coster-Waldau gets tattoos, a beard, and a gang initiation in this gritty crime thriller.
Now that Game of Thrones has reached a fever pitch in its seventh season, it’s time for studios to release trailers for all the movies that involve Thrones stars. For Saban Films, that means dropping this trailer for Shot Caller, the new crime thriller from Snitch and Felon director Ric Roman Waugh. It stars the most handsome Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, as a successful businessman who ends up in prison following a DUI conviction. The American prison system does a number on him, transforming him into a stoic, ruthless gangster.
Flanked by an interesting supporting cast — including Lake Bell, Omari Hardwick, Jon Bernthal, Emory Cohen, Jeffrey Donovan, and Benjamin Bratt — Coster-Waldau enters into territory that appears to be far different than what we’ve seen from him before. Though as we learned from Morten Tyldum’s 2011 crime thriller Headhunters, he’s not a one-note actor. Among the Game of Thrones crew, he may be among the most talented.
Shot Caller will debut on DirecTV July 20, then roll out into select theaters and On Demand August 18. Check out the trailer below.
