Over the weekend, television critics holed up in a room to talk to networks, producers, writers and stars of numerous television shows. And with this event — the annual TCAs — came a great deal of news. The folks at Netflix (who are absolutely on fire at the moment) made a number of announcements. Here’s the basic round-up:
- Marvel’s Jessica Jones has been renewed for a second season. It will include 13 episodes.
- Neil Patrick Harris was confirmed as the star of Series of Unfortunate Events, which will be an action show for kids.
- Black Mirror has confirmed cast members Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis for an episode directed by Owen Harris.
- Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2 will debut on April 15.
- Grace and Frankie season 2 will debut May 6.
- Orange is the New Black season 4 will debut on June 17.
- Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down will debut on August 12.
- Netflix confirmed that it’s spending $5 billion on content in 2016.
Perhaps the most interesting little news tidbit was something that isn’t confirmed by Netflix. In fact, when asked about it at the TCAs, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos had this to say: “It’s always possible. All the characters that spin out of that universe could also spin out. Any character who’s in there is on the table but it’s nothing I can talk about yet.”
He’s responding to the TV Line rumor that a series featuring Jon Bernthal as The Punisher is in development. According to the original report, everything is in very early stages.

The fact that anyone behind the scenes is talking about a possible Punisher series is good news for Daredevil season 2 and for Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the beloved vigilante. It’s one thing for fans to see a show and demand a spin-off or sequel, but another entirely for executives to be so impressed before the release that they are already spinning the wheels on something new. As if there was any need to be more excited about Daredevil‘s second season, which debuts March 18.
