A while back, it was rumored that Judd Apatow and Community star Gillian Jacobs were working on a new series called Love for Hulu. This was mid-2014. Since then, the series has come to fruition with a minor change: it’s going to be on Netflix.
Netflix announced today that Love will debut on its platform on February 19. The image you see at the top of this page is the first look at Jacobs, who plays the “brazen wild-child” Mickey and her co-star (and series co-creator) Paul Rust of Super Fun Night, as Gus, a “nice guy” who will be inspired to leave his comfort zone by the aforementioned Mickey. The pair will have to contend with “the exhilarations and humiliations of intimacy, commitment, love and other things they were hoping to avoid.”
They will also, according to the teaser below, have to read Infinite Jest.
Love has already received a two-season order form Netflix, making it Netflix’s largest upfront commitment alongside House of Cards in 2012. They’ve ordered 10 episodes for the first season and 12 for the second. The show is co-created by Lesley Afrin, who made her mark working on shows like Girls and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

It’s clear that once again, Netflix is attracting the kind of talent necessary to build a strong network. This following a year in which they launched numerous shows that made it onto our list of the Best TV of 2015, including Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Aziz Ansari’s Master of None and BoJack Horseman. With the year already kicking off strong with Making a Murder, plus Fuller House and more Daredevil, 2016 on Netflix has a strong outlook, as well.
Also, from what we can surmise, this new Netflix show will be nothing like Gaspar Noe’s Love.
