"I have a son in the United States. He gave me this bear to protect me. I promised him I would get it back to him." STX Entertainment has debuted the first trailer for a film called Desierto, directed by Alfonso Cuarón's son Jonás Cuarón. The thriller set on the US-Mexican border stars Gael García Bernal as a man trying to make it back safely. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as an angry border patrol agent out to hunt him down. We already ran a review of this film from the London Film Festival, saying that it "builds the tension and drama with great care and precision, never lulling or feeling over-long" with great "depth" in the lead performances. This is a sleek trailer, the footage in it will definitely grab your attention. Check it out below.
Here's the first official trailer for Jonás Cuarón's Desierto, direct from STX's YouTube:
What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer. Desierto is both written & directed by young Mexican filmmaker Jonás Cuarón (son of director Alfonso Cuarón), of the short Aningaaq previously. The screenplay is by Jonás Cuarón & Mateo Garcia. The film premiered at the London Film Festival and arrives in US theaters from STX starting on March 4th, 2016.
