We’ve still only seen a few minutes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Even with the release of a new TV spot loaded with little snippets of new footage (seen above), we’re still only scratching the surface of what J.J. Abrams has in store for the kick-off of this new trilogy. There are still entire set pieces, major characters and over an hour and a half of story that is yet to be told.
As I’ve said on numerous occasions, this is a good thing. We’re all very excited about the new Star Wars film (and the films that will come after it). We all love to talk about crazy rumors. And while some of that may lead us into spoiler territory, I’d wager that none of us really want to know everything until we see the movie in just over a month. Because there’s nothing like seeing a new Star Wars movie for the first time. And for many of us — especially those of us born after 1981 — our only experiences with seeing a new Star Wars movie weren’t exactly perfect (Thanks, George!). It’s left a chasm between the older generation of fans, those who saw the original trilogy in theaters as kids, and those of us who stood in line for the prequels, only to leave mostly disappointed.
The Force Awakens is our opportunity for franchise redemption. We’ll see if it pays off.
For now, we can obsess over these four minutes of footage, which an industrious fan named Mike Vecchio has cut into a sequence that he believes to be chronological order. It makes sense. See for yourself:
Whether or not this sequencing is correct remains to be seen. In 38 days, we’ll know.
