It’s hard to watch any kind of space drama unfold to the tune of “All Along the Watchtower” without instantly associating it with Battlestar Galactica and its final season quest to figure out who the remaining humanoid Cylons (the intelligent robot bad antagonists) were. As far as we know, Ridley Scott’s sprawling adaptation of Andy Weir’s book, The Martian, has nothing to do with evil sentient robots. It’s simply about one man’s fight for survival after being marooned on Mars. That man is Matt Damon.
This latest trailer is slightly longer, showing off more of the cast — including little hints at how Donald Glover and Sean Bean fit into the story — but the main thread remains the same: astronaut Mark Watney is stuck on Mars and he has no intention of giving up on life.
We’ve been pretty all-in on this one since the cast was announced. And as of yet, nothing has given us any indication that it will be anything but awesome. Welcome back, Ridley Scott’s ability to make cool movies set in space. We’ve missed you.
The Martian is due in theaters October 2.
