'The Hobbit' Trilogy Extended Editions Playing in Theaters this October

The Hobbit - Smaug

Good news, Middle-Earth fans! The Hobbit trilogy is headed back to theaters. To some this may sound like a bore, but if these aren't an interest to you, then no worries just continue on. For those who are fans, and who have been waiting for the extra footage that Peter Jackson shot, it's all coming together for a trilogy event this October. Our friends at TheOneRing.net are reporting via Far Away Entertainment's website that there will be a Fathom Events trio of the trilogy starting on Monday, October 5th. The event info says all three Extended Editions of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, starring Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, will be shown on the big screen. We expect an official announcement eventually, but this is the first word.

Here's the complete event listing from Far Away Entertainment, a theater chain in Washington state:

Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies. Shown over three nights, the epic Peter Jackson trilogy will be the first time the extended editions have ever been released in theatres. The films follow hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is convinced by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to accompany thirteen dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch). Also included will be an exclusive introduction by director Peter Jackson. First night showing starts Monday, October 5th, 2015 at 7:30pm local.

Warner Bros / New Line and Peter Jackson have already been progressively releasing the Extended Editions of the first two The Hobbit movies almost a year after the original release of each of those. Both of those are already available on Bu-ray, but The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is last. The theatrical cut ran 144 minutes, though we're not sure how much longer this final movie will be. AMC has a listing for an event on October 13th, so it sounds like the showings of The Hobbit will run throughout October along with trilogy events. For those who are still excited to see a fully extended, completed trilogy of The Hobbit movies, this is the event you've been waiting for. We'll be posting any more official updates once they arrive. Who's in?
