See the films that inspired the creators of Sinister 2. That's the concept behind this brand new screening series kicking off this month. Called "Sinister Weekends", Gramercy Pictures has announced a midnight screening series running nationwide that will (re-)introduce fans of the Sinister "franchise" to more horror. "The program is set to terrorize fans in Los Angeles, New York, and over a dozen additional markets with weekends of horror celebrating fright inspirations for Sinister co-creators and Sinister 2 screenwriters and Scott Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill as well as Sinister 2 director Ciarán Foy." Watch a few trailers for this sequel here and here, and catch the beginning of this screening series when it kicks off this weekend.
Here are the event details as provided by the press release. To find out more info, book tickets, find theater locations and much more, visit the "Sinister Weekends" official website at sinisterscreenings.com. Info:
August 8 and 9, 2015 – THE RING – On August 8 and 9, "Sinister Weekends" showcases The Ring. Gore Verbinksi's visual masterpiece unnerved Sinister co-creator and writer C. Robert Cargill, who credits this movie with causing a nightmare which would serve as the inspiration for the Sinister franchise.
August 15 and 16, 2015 – THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, and NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD – Sinister 2 director Ciarán Foy presents three of his personal favorites for "Sinister Weekends" dates August 15 and 16. The trio of diverse and iconic titles speaks to the robust cinematic vocabulary which Foy brings to the franchise.
August 22 and 23, 2015 – SINISTER – On opening weekend for Sinister 2, "Sinister Weekends" will stoke fans' anticipation with special midnight screenings of the original Sinister.
This is a really cool idea. Introduce some new horror films to a new generation, and hype up (or as they say "stoke fans' anticipation") with screenings that all connect to the next movie. The original Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in, 2008) and the original Night of the Living Dead (Romero, 1968) are fantastic films, along with everything else they're showing, including Guillermo del Toro's rad horror The Devil's Backbone (2001). Sinister 2 arrives in theaters starting August 21st later this month. If you're not in the mood for a horror yet, stop by one of this screenings and it'll definitely put you in the mood to be creeped out by Bughuul. For more info, click here. Or just check your local listings for midnight showings coming up.
