Professor X May Have a Big Role in Hugh Jackman's Final 'Wolverine'

Professor X - Wolverine

"What exactly are you a professor *of*, 'Professor Logan?'" Well, this is exciting. There are many different superhero projects in the works right now, one of them being Hugh Jackman's final performance as The Wolverine in another solo movie. The movie was revealed at Comic-Con this year, with Jackman giving a tearful farewell to the character in Hall H. He even hinted at Comic-Con that they may be doing Old Man Logan, but other details have yet to be confirmed. During a recent interview with actor Patrick Stewart, Collider (via SlashFilm) discovered that the X-Men's Professor X may indeed have a big role in the movie, and Stewart is likely going to be returning for that role. Or, at least he's "intrigued" about the idea. Read on.

This possibility has been rumored before but it's good to hear that it's real and close to happening, as it makes me particularly excited for this final outing. Director James Mangold and writer Michael Green are already working on the sequel to The Wolverine (from 2013) and while no details have been revealed officially by the studio yet, Stewart does mention some interesting things. Here's what he told Collider:

"I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me."

"And the idea of an old Wolverine – I'm really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I'm hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he'll make me look better if that's the case."

Another hint about the possibility of seeing the Old Man Logan story, where Logan is living out a quiet retirement after initially hanging up the claws when a group of supervillains took over the world. Logan is drawn out by Hawkeye, who offers him a high-paying gig to deliver a secret package to the capital. Back when that news first hit, was then debunked, so it sounds like this final Wolverine story will be mixing up inspirations from various comic book stories, not just one arc. Patrick Stewart didn't reveal much else related to Wolverine in the interview, but this is a good sign so far. I was recently rewatching X2 and the main storyline that works so well in that involves Logan's relationship with Professor X, which is one reason I think this might be good idea. We'll be watching for more Wolverine updates from here. Sound good?
