Terrence Malick's Film 'Knight of Cups' Set for March 2016 Release

Knight of Cups

We have to wait another 7 months until the new Terrence Malick film. Broad Green Pictures has announced release dates for two outstanding films that already premiered at festivals (via The Wrap). First, they'll open Sarah Silverman's I Smile Back, a Sundance drug drama directed by Adam Salky, in theaters on October 23rd this fall (read Ethan's review). The one everyone is anxiously awaiting is Terrence Malick's Knight of Cups, which already premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this year (read my review from Berlinale). Knight of Cups is scheduled for release starting March 4th, 2016 early next year. Not too long of a wait, but it's certainly worth it since this is Malick getting back to form. The film will start limited and go wider in March.

In Malick's Knight of Cups, Christian Bale stars as Rick, an uninspired screenwriter living on the event horizon of all the vice, and some of the virtues, Los Angeles has to offer. He is a slave to the Hollywood system; addicted to success but simultaneously despairing at the emptiness of his life. With the death of his brother Billy hanging over him like a shadow and his surviving brother down on his luck, Rick seeks distraction in the company of women. Women seem to know him better than he know himself, bringing him closer to the heart of things, closer to understanding his place. And while the parties, the dalliances, and the career remain unfulfilling – each woman, each man he’s met through the course of his life has served him in some way as a guide, a messenger… See the first official trailer / read Alex's Berlinale review.
