Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials Trailer: Don’t You Want to Understand?

“Don’t you want to understand why this all happened?” asks Littlefinger — I mean Aiden Gillan. My answer: “yes!” I had a whole bunch of questions at the end of The Maze Runner, and maybe against my better judgment I’m ready to follow the hot young actors onto the next stage of this confusing series based on the best-selling YA novels. After one movie, I don’t know what the hell is going on in this world or what the hell that maze was really for and why Patricia Clarkson seems so evil and yet still so motherly at the same time.

Spoiler alert: we’re out of the maze, with returning actors Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee and Jojen Reed — I mean Thomas Brodie-Sangster. Hold on, how many Game of Thrones actors will this franchise feature, anyway? According to the IMDb page for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, this sequel also stars Nathalie Emmanuel. How about some dragons? Please tell me the scorching of the title is from dragons.

This new trailer might play well ahead of Mad Max: Fury Road, at least for anyone who doesn’t know what it is and is just in the theater for their love of post-apocalyptic wasteland movies. In The Scorch Trials, apparently the kids are thrown out into the desert and ruins that are left of our civilization. I somehow get the feeling that we’re not going to sit around letting Littlefinger explain things before we’re out and running around again.

Okay, fine, I’ll keep with it and see if anything makes sense by the third movie. For now, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is scheduled to hit theaters in that post-summer wasteland of September. Specifically September 18th.

In this next chapter of the epic “Maze Runner” saga, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all.
