After turning in an impressive supporting performance in David Fincher's fantastic thriller Gone Girl, it looks like Tyler Perry is moving into blockbuster territory. Variety reports the director and actor has just landed the key role of scientist Baxter Stockman in next summer's sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. The character's involvement in the film remains to be seen, but in the comics and animated series, Stockman is responsible for creating little robots called Mousers that gave our heroes in a half-shell some trouble. In the comics, they robb banks, but on the TV series they had another purpose. Read on!
In the animated series, Shredder is the one who commissions Stockman to build the Mousers in order to kill Splinter, and since we've heard he'll be back again as the turtles' primary adversary, that could very well happen in the movie. There's also been rumblings of Beebop and Rocksteady appearing in the sequel, so it sounds like there's going to be plenty of stuff for longtime TMNT fans to soak up. As for Perry's casting, I'm interested to see how he does with a role like this, especially if he's a straight-up bad guy. Perry is just one of a few new additions to the cast, with the most recent being Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, which could be cool. But even so, I'm not really excited about the sequel, so if it doesn't work, I won't really care.
