Now that director James Wan has Furious 7 under his belt as a huge blockbuster success, he's one of the most sought after directors working right now. Wan is reportedly wanted to direct Aquaman for DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures, but there's a chance that Universal could bring him back for Furious 8 as well. Now there's one more project that wants Wan behind the camera as THR reports Sony wants the filmmaker to direct Robotech, their big screen adaptation of the revered anime. The studio picked up the property back in March with the intention of moving quickly toward a future global franchise.
For those who don't know, Robotech is set at a time when Earth has developed giant robots based on the technology of an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Using this new technology, mankind must fight off three waves of alien invasions, including giant warriors looking to get their ship's energy source back. Two young pilots end up leading the battle and hold the fate of mankind in their hands. The concept would give Wan quite the playground to mess around in, but he's got so many offers on the table, it's hard to tell which one he'll go with in the end. Stay tuned to see what Wan chooses to direct. Either way, he's directing The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergiest next. Thoughts?
