Even though Disney's new live-action Beauty and the Beast is still trying to lock down the male lead for the musical fairytale, that's not stopping producers from locking down the supporting cast already. Variety has word that Fast & Furious 6 and The Hobbit franchise star Luke Evans is coming on board the film as the dastardly Gaston, the buff, handsome and vain man who didn't care for books and tried to woo Belle (Emma Watson of the Harry Potter franchise) to no avail. He eventually leads a catchy musical mob to kill the beast at his castle despite the protest of Belle who comes to see him as a misunderstood beast. Read on!
I'm glad to see that Evans isn't stumbling after the disappointment that was Dracula Untold. The actor has a promising career ahead of him still, and he's smartly avoided the reboot of The Crow in favor of more high profile, respectable projects such as this. Plus, something like Beauty and the Beast will show even more range from Evans. He's got quite a lot coming up with roles in Ben Wheatley's adaptation of High Rise with Tom Hiddleston (not to mention the filmmaker's next project Free Fire ) and Message from the King with Chadwick Boseman. Personally, I can't wait to see Evans belt out some Disney tunes. Sound good?
