As Far As We Can Tell, This Mother’s Day Trailer is Not a Parody

Jennifer Aniston in Mother's Day

Watching this first trailer for Garry Marshall’s Mother’s Day, it’s hard not to think one very specific thing: is this a parody?

After doing some digging, we have uncovered that yes, this is a real movie. It really stars Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts, Jason Sudeikis, Sarah Chalke and character actress Margo Martindale. The film was written by four people, it was directed by Garry Marshall and it’s really coming out on April 29, 2016.

It is not affiliated in any way with Funny or Die.

Earlier today our own Matthew Monagle wrote about how romantic comedies have been making us dumber for decades, stunting our collective view of how love and relationships work. In the modern era, Garry Marshall might be public enemy #1 in this regard. He was responsible for Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride and The Other Sister in the ’90s. In this decade alone, he has delivered Valentine’s DayNew Year’s Eve and now Mother‘s Day, a trifecta of vapid, unfunny, vain comedies that are probably emotionally harming audiences.

We must stop Garry Marshall, before he does more of this:
