Massive 9-Minute Trailer for 'The Great Wall' Profiles Each Character

The Great Wall Trailer

"There are many things you have not seen." Like a 9 minute long trailer? This is pretty epic. An extended Chinese trailer has debuted for the Chinese epic The Great Wall, from director Zhang Yimou. The film is set to open in China this December, which is why this seems like a massive marketing push even though it doesn't open in the US until February. This features footage from other trailers at the opening and closing, and spends six minutes in the middle introducing the five different main Chinese characters. Matt Damon stars as one of the few white dudes; also starring Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau, Tian Jing, Eddie Peng, Numan Acar, Han Lu, Kenny Lin, Zhang Hanyu. This looks colorful and entertaining.

Here's the new extended 9-minute Chinese trailer for Zhang Yimou's The Great Wall, from YouTube:

The Great Wall Trailer

You can still see the first teaser trailer for Yimou's The Great Wall here, and the second official US trailer.

Set in the Northern Song Dynasty, the story is about mysteries centered around the construction of the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall is directed by acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, of the films The Road Home, House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower, The Flowers of War, and Coming Home most recently. The screenplay is by Tony Gilroy, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro; from an original story by Thomas Tull and Max Brooks. This is one of Legendary Pictures co-productions with China. It is the most expensive film ever shot entirely in China with a budget of $135 million. Universal will release Zhang Yimou's The Great Wall in theaters everywhere starting February 17th, 2017 next year. Thoughts?

Watch: First Trailer for Historical War Drama 'The Ottoman Lieutenant'

The Ottoman Lieutenant Trailer

"You have your mission, Doctor, and I have mine." Paladin has debuted a trailer for the film The Ottoman Lieutenant, another historical war drama, this one directed by Joseph Ruben. Set during the first World War (or "The Great War"), the film is about a woman who ends up in a love triangle between an American doctor and a dashing lieutenant for the Ottoman Imperial Army. Josh Hartnett stars as the American, Michiel Huisman as the lieutenant, and Hera Hilmar as the woman who comes between them. The cast includes Ben Kingsley, Haluk Bilginer, Affif Ben Badra, Paul Barrett, Jessica Turner and Peter Hosking. For whatever reason this reminds me of Bitter Harvest, and sadly both films look quite mediocre.

Here's the first official trailer for Joseph Ruben's The Ottoman Lieutenant, originally from Yahoo:

The Ottoman Lieutenant

A beautiful, strong-willed woman (Hera Hilmar), who, frustrated by ongoing injustice at home, leaves the United States after meeting Jude (Josh Hartnett), an American doctor who runs a remote medical mission within the Ottoman Empire -- a world both exotic and dangerous, and on the brink of what is about to become the first World War. There, she finds her loyalty to Jude and the mission's founder (Ben Kingsley) tested when she falls in love with their perceived enemy, a lieutenant (Michiel Huisman) in the Ottoman Imperial Army. The Ottoman Lieutenant is directed by Joseph Ruben, of Joyride, Dreamscape, True Believer, Sleeping with the Enemy, Money Train, The Good Son, Return to Paradise, The Forgotten, and Penthouse North previously. The screenplay is by Jeff Stockwell, with rewrites by David Loughery. Paladin will open the film limited in December, with a wider release starting February 2017. Anyone interested?
