Neon Genesis Evangelion saw the rules for anime and threw the book away. When the series aired in 1995, nothing like it had ever been seen before. The anime industry was used to putting adult and violent anime on OVAs and selling directly to consumers. Neon Genesis Evangelion created shock waves with its television debut and changed the medium forever. And the landmark anime series still holds up today.
Studio Gainax and director Hideaki Anno created some striking images that have been engraved in the minds of viewers everywhere. The series has been frequently cited as having budgetary concerns, which is true, but that is only because of the precision and artistry that went into the most iconic episodes of the series. 24. “He was aware that he was still a child.” (Episode 21)
This photo appears in the opening credits throughout the series. In this episode, we learned the origin of the photo, and it is one of the best instances of Misato Katsuragi, Ryoji Kaji, and Ritsuko Akagi.
