Movies based on DC Comics have been around for decades, even though their shared cinematic universe is fairly recent. In that time, these movies have also treated us to some awe-inspiring imagery that deserves to be celebrated. Sure, DC’s cinematic output has been hit-or-miss in the grand scheme of things, but perfect shots have been a consistent fixture in their films since the early years.
Everyone has their own views and opinions on what constitutes a perfect shot. There’s no denying that frame composition and lighting goes a long way, but sometimes a shot is perfect because it’s evocative or captures a moment in a story that resonated with us on some level. Every shot included here was chosen because it’s perfect in its own unique way. It’s highly likely that we’ve left out some of your favorite shots and included some that aren’t your cup of tea. That’s completely fine. Different strokes for different folks, variety is the spice of life, etc.
Additionally, some of the movies featured here aren’t exactly critically acclaimed. A couple of these flicks could even be called stinkers. That said, sometimes even bad movies contain some mightily impressive artistry and that shouldn’t be ignored. Hopefully, this list also makes you appreciate the stunning cinematography on display in movies you don’t particularly enjoy. Every live-action DC movie was considered during the curation of this piece, and perfect shots were found in the majority of them.
Finally, this list contains a couple of shots from adaptations of Vertigo comics. Technically, Vertigo is an imprint of DC Comics, so going by that logic their movies totally count for the purposes of this exercise. With all of this in mind, here are 50 incredible shots for your viewing pleasure.
