‘Tully’ Trailer: Jason Reitman Goes Back to His Roots With Charlize Theron

By Max Covill

Charlize Theron can’t even handle parenting anymore.

There is a reason why Tully is promoted using Jason Reitman’s previous movies, Juno and Young Adult. Not just because he is getting the various parts of those teams back together, but because Young Adult was the last time he made a success. After a string of good to great films including of favorite of mine, Thank You For Smoking, Reitman has been on a downward slope with films such as Labor Day and Men, Women, & Children. If there is a way to get back that creative mojo, then going back to what got to the dance in the first place is a good start.

Tully sees Reitman partnering up with Charlize Theron and screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) for a brand new feature about motherhood. No this doesn’t look like Aronofsky’s mother! but rather a look into what motherhood entails in the year 2018. The first trailer sets the tone of an exhausted mother (Theron) of three, including a newborn that is just struggling to survive. Seeing her struggling, he brother (Mark Duplass) hires a night nanny (Mackenzie Davis) named Tully that will hopefully ease some of the mothers’ burden.
