DeWanda Wise is about to have it all.
Captain Marvel has added another fantastic actress to its ranks. Deadline reports that She’s Gotta Have It lead DeWanda Wise has landed a big role in the superheroine feature. She’ll be joining a cast that already includes Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Ben Mendelsohn. There is no word on what her role will be, but there has been some speculation about who it could be.
The biggest idea is that she could be playing the character of Monica Rambeau. Rambeau is a lieutenant in the New Orleans harbor patrol. While trying to prevent the creation of a dangerous weapon, she is exposed to extra-dimensional energy. She can then use that energy as her superpower. She is considered the first Captain Marvel. So it is a character that could pass the torch or coexist within the same time frame of Larson’s Captain Marvel, but that is purely speculation at this point.
The other news in the article says that She’s Gotta Have It has been renewed by Netflix. Everything is coming up roses for Wise, with a continuing series and major role in the Marvel’s Captain Marvel feature. Looks like her star is on the rise.
Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and will open on March 8, 2019.
