It’s only been several months since HBO’s hit series Girls went off the air but the creative duo behind the show, Lena Dunham, and Jenni Konner, are already making headlines with a new project. Tracking Board is reporting that Lionsgate has tapped Dunham and Konner to adapt and produce E. Lockhart’s New York Times’ best-seller, “Genuine Fraud” into a feature film.
It didn’t take Lionsgate long to snatch up the rights to “Genuine Fraud” as the book just made its way to store shelves on September 5th. For Lionsgate, acquiring the rights to the popular young adult thriller about a conniving young woman looks like a smart gamble. Konner and Dunham have a talent for creating strong female characters with distinct voices and bringing the two talented ladies onboard the production only stacks the odds of success in Lionsgate’s favor.
Here is the peculiar “Genuine Fraud” synopsis listed over at Penguin Random House.
From the author of the unforgettable New York Times bestseller We Were Liars comes a masterful new psychological suspense novel—the story of a young woman whose diabolical smarts are her ticket into a charmed life. But how many times can someone reinvent themselves? You be the judge.
Imogen is a runaway heiress, an orphan, a cook, and a cheat.
Jule is a fighter, a social chameleon, and an athlete.
An intense friendship. A disappearance. A murder, or maybe two.
A bad romance, or maybe three.
Blunt objects, disguises, blood, and chocolate. The American dream, superheroes, spies, and villains.
A girl who refuses to give people what they want from her.
A girl who refuses to be the person she once was.
