Warner Bros. has released the first full trailer for IT, the Andrés Muschietti (Mama) directed re-adaptation of Stephen King’s terrifying novel. When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.
What we see in the trailer is certainly a sleeker, more modern approach to King’s story. Visually, a Stranger Things meets the Annabelle franchise. What’s most impressive, perhaps, is the pervasive sense of dread the trailer delivers. Toward the end, we get a montage of jumpy moments, but throughout the trailer, we’re being sold on the notion that it’s all about mystery and history. We’ll see how well it all pays off when the film hits theaters September 8.
